All:

I just wanted to remind people that there is an excellent program on this
evening about Katrina/Rita and the Gulf Coast - mostly New Orleans.

Parts 3 and 4 of When the Levee Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts is on HBO this
evening at 8:00 CST.  I saw parts 1 and 2 last night and it was stunning;
shows the results of designing and building in a non-sustainable way.

This will air again - in all 4 parts - at 7:00 CST on Tuesday, August 29.

Cheers,

Ralph

For some reason my posting was delayed a day. That program was last night.
This will air again - in all 4 parts - at 7:00 CST on Tuesday, August 29,
and again later as well. Check listings at HBO:

P.S. last night's last 2 acts were as gripping as the first two. This
program does the best of any that I have seen at capturing the essence of
what happened in New Orleans and what is still happening. It particularly
highlights the human side of the triple bottom line. Without adequately
addressing the human/social side we will not have sustainability. This
program points out how miserably we have done with addressing human needs in
New Orleans pre-Katrina, during Katrina and after Katrina. There are huge
lessons here with applicability world-wide. While I do not agree with every
conclusion the program suggested it is a must watch; especially for those
concerned with the built environment.

Now, on to fixing the problems! That is the program I really want to see.

Cheers,

Ralph

Dear BigGreen: Has anyone been able to identify impact on first costs
for LEED-CI/sustainable interiors work? This question has come up for
interiors-only work. I'm interested if you have any feedback, and
whether you're finding different variables to have an influence, such as
scope of work, size of project, etc.

Many thanks.
