Big Green: Interior fabric light shelfs

We have used painted plywood on one project and translucent
polycarbonate on another. The translucent worked best, as the solid
plywood created a noticeable shaded area underneath, whereas the
translucent material provided a more even light level/ less contrast in
the room. I am still on the lookout for a greener, cost-competitive
alternative to polycarbonate (PolyGal type). Our projects are mostly
schools so we have not used fabric out of durability concerns.

for the LEED-CI certified offices of Wallace Roberts & Todd, we used
painted hollow core doors. David Nelson, the lighting designer,
determined that they should be slightly angled up in this case, to
provide more complete shading of direct sun. I'll send you an image off
line since big green doesn't accept attachments.

Subject: Big Green: Interior fabric light shelfs
Hello,
My firm is in the process of moving into a new office and we are
trying to incorporate our green design philosophy into this new space.
We are looking into adding interior light shelfs to our south facing
store front windows. I am however having a very hard time finding any
information on any systems or fabrics specifically designed for this
use. If anyone has had prior experience with this and could maybe point
me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Ron Finney
