Solar Thermal Evaluations
Program Opportunity Notice (PON) No. 1085
$500,000 AVAILABLE FOR PROJECTS
Proposals due February 5, 2007 by 5 PM Eastern Time.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA)
invites proposals to demonstrate and assess the effectiveness of various
solar thermal technologies for New York State buildings. Solar thermal
technologies that could be eligible for evaluation include, but are not
limited to the following:
• Passive Solar Homes;
• Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems;
• Solar Space Heating Systems (e.g., air heaters or radiant-floor
heating systems);
• Solar-augmented Ground-source Heat Pumps; and
• New Collector Designs (e.g., evacuated tubes, polymeric absorber
plates, and roof integrated systems).
Proposals are sought for three categories of solar thermal technology
research projects: Monitored Demonstrations (Category A), a Solar Domestic
Water Heating (SDHW) Technologies Assessment (Category B), and a
Technology Feasibility Study Project (Category C). NYSERDA anticipates
making multiple awards for Monitored Demonstration Projects, a single
award for the SDHW Technology Assessment Project, and a single award for
the Technology Feasibility Study Project.
Proposals must emphasize determination of energy and economic benefits for
solar thermal technologies. Proposals focusing on basic or fundamental
research are ineligible. NYSERDA expects to make multiple awards of up to
$100,000 for Category A projects, a single award of up to $75,000 for the
Category B project, and a single award of up to $75,000 for the Category C
project. Total awards will not exceed $500,000 for this PON. Category A
projects are preferred to be cost-shared at or above 33%. Projects funded
under this solicitation are anticipated to start in Summer 2007.
