Big Green: Singe-phase elevator?

We are planning a small public building that will be served by a grid-tied
PV system. We have an elevator. The electrical engineer advises that we will
be required to produce 3-phase power w/ the PVs, since that is what we are
connecting to. This bumps us up into more PVs than we had intended, which is
over budget. 
 
We are exploring options. One is -- any single-phase elevators out there? I
found thru Googling, the Orion LU/LA. Does anyone have experience w/ this? 
 
Any other thoughts -- or elevators to recommend? We need accessibility plus
sized for a stretcher.
