The bottom of hoist beam for the Kone EcoSpace is to be located 13'
above the finish floor. So that will determine if you will need to pop
up your roof. Their website has a good planning guide to help you size
the shaft and control room. We actually just had the Kone rep in our
office a couple of weeks ago, and we were told they are getting out of
the hydraulic business all together because the traction elevators are
more efficient and do not have the same problems.

Hello Julie:
Here is the most cutting edge elevator technology for your evaluation.
Machine Roomless traction elevator that is for mid-rises or lower.
Check out the Otis Elevator Company MRL elevator (Gen2) and its
equivalent the Kone EcoSpace.

The ink goes to a europen info but it's been in the US for a few years.
There were 3 but the 3rd dropped out.
Here is a good link discussing the subject....

There are some reservations and one should look into whether this is
appropriate for your intended use.
I have no idea on the costs other than you can save on basic square
footage.... but the roof may pop up a bit because it's traction.
I'd talk to their reps for cost info.

We are planning a small public building that will be served by a
grid-tied PV system. We have an elevator. The electrical engineer
advises that we will be required to produce 3-phase power w/ the PVs,
since that is what we are connecting to. This bumps us up into more PVs
than we had intended, which is over budget.
We are exploring options. One is -- any single-phase elevators
out there? I found thru Googling, the Orion LU/LA. Does anyone have
experience w/ this?
Any other thoughts -- or elevators to recommend? We need
accessibility plus sized for a stretcher.
