Big Green: pioneers of green building--who are they?

Boy, this feels like a tricky topic to jump in on--how to choose who
to mention?
So rather than try anything comprehensive, I'll just mention the
person who has had the biggest influence by far on my career in green
building: Gail Lindsey. I blogged about her a while back.
Also, just for the record, I'll correct a few details in the list below:
Paul Hawken (not Hawkins)
Sandy Wiggins was not a founder of USGBC (that would be David
Gottfried, along with Mike Italiano and Rick Fedrizzi). But he is the
immediate past chair, and a very enlightened developer.
Also, there is no "USGBC Canada". There is a Canada GBC, which is
independent of USGBC, and licenses the right to use LEED. Peter Busby
was instrumental in creating the Canada GBC. Kevin Hydes was chair of
USGBC before Sandy, even though he's Canadian.
Ed Mazria
What a fun question!
