Hi all-

We're trying to spread the word about a research study we're conducting here
at the Center for the Built Environment- we're looking for K-12 schools that
would be interested in free Post-Occupancy Evaluation surveys. Any help you
can offer in extending the invitation would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Lindsay Baker

Free School Building Evaluation

Improve your facilities while helping a national research study

The Center for the Built Environment (CBE) at the University of California,
Berkeley is embarking on a study of trends in classroom buildings across the
country. Through this research, they hope to identify trends in school
facilities, and improve future school design and operations. They are
looking for a variety of school buildings, both public and private, for a
national Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) study. For the next few months, for
the purposes of this study, CBE will be conducting surveys for K-12 school
buildings for free (usually there is a fee associated with POE studies).

CBE has developed a survey that can measure occupant satisfaction with
indoor environments in a standardized manner while minimizing research costs
and inconvenience to the survey participants. The survey has been
extensively tested and refined by the Survey Research Center at the
University of California, Berkeley.

If you would like to participate in the study, please visit the Center for
the Built Environment website for more information, a demo of the survey,
and a link to sign up:

The Benefit to Your School

All of your specific data will remain confidential, but the CBE will provide
the results of your POE survey to you for your use in improving your school
facilities. The survey results can offer a unique view into how your
buildings are functioning, and how the occupants feel about them. This
survey has helped many building operators identify and prioritize areas for
improvement in facilities. It can also be used to help satisfy the LEED
Indoor Environmental Quality credit for running an occupant survey.

Qualifications for Schools:

1. You must be able to contact teachers via a superintendent, principal or
other direct supervisor, via email.

2. You must be able to provide the information listed in the building
characteristics form, for each building that you would like to survey, to
the best of your ability.

3. The school(s) you would like to survey must be K-12 schools (no
childcare or universities) within the US or Canada that were fully occupied
during the '07-'08 school year.

The Deadline for responding to this call is October 15th, 2008. Surveys
will be conducted during the fall, and results should be available by
January 2008.
